Overview

Scales Industrial Technologies has the answer for your industrial cooling requirements with our full line of cooling equipment. We can provide you with a complete turn-key service, or supply design, equipment and installation assistance to help you complete your cooling system project. We offer simple, cost effective solutions to high cooling costs by using the latest cooling system technologies in place of existing or once-through systems.

Closed loop glycol systems can convert water-cooled equipment to air-cooled, eliminating water and sewage costs, minimizing down time, and reducing maintenance issues caused by scale, rust and corrosion.

Cooling Towers

Cooling towers are available in many configurations to meet customer’s requirements. We can design, supply, install and start-up your system.

Open Evaporative Towers use ambient air and evaporation to cool process water and are the least expensive to purchase.

Closed Loop Cooling Towers circulate the warm process fluid from the heat source to the coil of the closed circuit cooler. The fluid in the coil transfers its heat through the coil tube walls in a sensible exchange to the spray water that floods over the tubes. Having gained heat from the coil, the spray water then falls to the sump where it is circulated by the spray pump up through distribution piping to the spray nozzles. The warmed spray water is then distributed as a thin film over the fill-deck surface for maximum cooling efficiency. The fan system operates simultaneously, moving large volumes of air through the unit in a direction opposite the falling water. The air and water contact directly across the fill-deck surface whereupon a small portion of the spray water is evaporated. The evaporation process provides a latent exchange of heat from the spray water to the air passing through the unit. The air is then discharged from the unit as a warm and saturated stream with a final dissipation of heat to the atmosphere. The spray water exits the fill-deck module as a cooled fluid where it floods across the coil in a repeat cycle. Closed loop towers completely isolate process water from the tower water. Process equipment is completely protected from contamination. This design, along with corrosion inhibitors in a glycol process mix, can help to eliminate scale in equipment and piping.

We design all our cooling tower systems to minimize water loss due to evaporation and blow-down, and to insure minimal makeup water costs.

Chillers

Scales Industrial Technologies has a wide range of industrial chillers for portable and stationary use in both air-cooled and water-cooled models. Our chillers can deliver a precise and reliable liquid flow across a wide range of process and ambient temperatures.

Our small units are completely packaged and require only electrical and fluid connections. A wide range of controls are available from basic to microprocessor control. Pre-piped pumps and hermetic refrigeration compressors provide long service life with minimal maintenance required. Large capacity units can be custom sized for special applications as well as standard duty selections.

Packaging a free cooler with our chillers is one of our specialties. Free cooling uses ambient air temperatures to cool your process when the weather allows, thereby turning off the chiller. This can cut energy costs dramatically and provides a very fast payback.

Closed Loop Dry Fluid Cooler

Closed Loop Dry Fluid Coolers are sealed, pressurized systems consisting of an air cooled fan-coil unit coupled to a pump station and control module. The dry fluid cooler uses ambient air as the primary cooling medium.

This completely sealed system eliminates scale and corrosion build-up in piping and equipment. Corrosion inhibitors in the glycol provide further protection.

When compared to water and sewage costs as well as with other types of cooling systems, the cost to operate a closed loop dry fluid cooler system is very low. The use of fan cycling sequence switches can provide additional energy savings.

For specific or difficult temperature applications including high seasonal ambient conditions a trim cooler with automatic water supply valve is available.

Designs with approach temperatures as low as 3°F are available to further minimize water usage.

Pump and Tank Packages

The pump and tank package is the core of any well designed cooling water system. It is essential that it be designed to provide proper cooling water flow and pressure continuously throughout the system. This section of the system can also be designed to eliminate air and particulate from the cooling water thus reducing the possibility of scaling, sludge and corrosion.

Our pump packages are available in any type of configuration including standard simplex and duplex arrangements or custom packages (such as the one pictured) with multiple pumps, heat exchangers and automatic backup. We can also design and build a master control center for the entire system.

In addition, our pump packages can be custom designed and built to fit a particular area or process whether inside your building or out. We have even built a pump/chiller - free cooler system that holds the cooling water to a set temperature within 1/10° C.

Heat Recovery

Every compressor and cooling installation has the potential to offer additional savings in some form of heat recovery. This heat recovery can be in the form of simple space heaters, pre-heating of boiler and process water for water-cooled machines or air ducting for air-cooled units. Our engineers can custom design a complete heat recovery system that can conserve energy, and in most cases, provide a rapid energy payback.

Free Cooling

Scales Industrial Technologies can help you save energy by redesigning your cooling system to take advantage of cooler weather. Free-coolers use the low outdoor temperatures in the fall, winter and spring months to provide cooling water to the plant thereby allowing the chiller to throttle back or even shutoff.
